Returning full time undergraduate student fee FAQs
Content Accordions
- What is the new tuition fee amount?
£9,535 is the new maximum fee allowed fee for full-time, undergraduate programmes at Welsh universities.
For Foundation Year students studying a classroom-based subject, the fee will be £5,760. See the next point for more information.
- What Is The New Tuition Fee Amount for Foundation Year Study?
From the start of the 2025 to 2026 academic year new tuition fees are being introduced for foundation years in some subjects.
Students will pay a reduced tuition fee of £5,760 if they are doing a foundation year in a classroom-based subject, such as:
- Business
- Social science
- Humanities
Tuition fees and tuition fee loans for foundation years in non-classroom-based subjects remain at £9,535. These subjects include:
- Science
- Engineering
- Medical subjects
- Creative and performing arts
The list of lower-fee subject areas can be found here
- How will I know what I’m paying?
The fees apply to both new and returning students.
If you are funded by the Student Loan Company (SLC), you will receive an email from the SLC letting you know that the total amount fundable for your tuition fees has increased to £9,535 or £5,760 for a Foundation Year in a classroom-based subject.
If you are self-funded or funded by a sponsor, your fee will be increased to £9,535 or £5,760 for a Foundation Year in a classroom-based subject and the invoice issued to you/your sponsor will reflect the new fee.
- My Tuition Fees Are Funded By NHS Wales Via HEIW’s Tuition Fee Bursary. Do I Need To Do Anything?
No. There is nothing you need to do if your tuition fees are funded by HEIW.
However, if you are studying on a HEIW course but you have opted out of the HEIW tuition fee bursary, point 3 above applies. - Will I be able to take out a larger student loan to cover the change in fees?
Yes. To support students the Student Loans Company will increase the amount you are able to claim for tuition fees. If you have applied to borrow the full amount to cover your fee, that amount will be automatically increased to £9,535 or £5,760 for a Foundation Year in a classroom-based subject.
Only students who have actively chosen to apply for a lower amount than the maximum will not have the amount they are borrowing automatically increased.
- I have deferred my entry. What fee will I pay?
The University publishes fees annually for future entry points and you will be charged the applicable amount at that point. This will be stated in the new offer letter you will receive prior to starting with us.
- I’m an international student studying, do the changes affect me?
The decision made by the Welsh Government to increase the undergraduate tuition fee cap will not affect the fee currently charged for international students.
- I still have a question regarding fees, who do I contact?
