About the Faculty

The Faculty of Social and Life Sciences is proud of our applied research portfolio that makes a positive impact on our local area and beyond, through our innovative and creative research environment. Our developing research culture aims to support our staff and students working at different levels to develop an ethos of research collaboration.

The focus of our Faculty’s research is health and wellbeing. Our recent Research Excellence Framework success demonstrates our commitment to this with case studies on ‘Homelessness in Wales’ and ‘Alcohol and drug policy’.

The Faculty launched its first research institute in September (2022) led by Professor Iolo Madoc Jones and Professor Wulf Livingston: ‘Cyfiawnder’ The Social Inclusion Research Institute

Dr Simon Stewart

Dean of Faculty

“Our research areas align with our Civic Mission and the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (2015), impacting economically, socially, and culturally. We are innovating on cardiac pre-habilitation, work cross-disciplinarily on pedagogy, and regularly work with various branches of the Welsh Government on youth work, youth justice, homelessness amongst prison leavers, and national alcohol and drugs policy”
