About the Faculty

The Faculty of Social and Life Sciences is proud of our applied research portfolio that makes a positive impact on our local area and beyond, through our innovative and creative research environment. Our developing research culture aims to support our staff and students working at different levels to develop an ethos of research collaboration.

The focus of our Faculty’s research is health and wellbeing. Our recent Research Excellence Framework success demonstrates our commitment to this with case studies on ‘Homelessness in Wales’ and ‘Alcohol and drug policy’.

The Faculty launches its first research institute in September (2022) led by Professor Iolo Madoc Jones, Professor Wulf Livingston and Dr Caroline Gordon ‘Cyfiawnder’ The Social Inclusion Research Institute

“Our research areas align with our Civic Mission and the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (2015), to develop research that makes a positive impact economically, socially, and culturally for our local community, nationally and internationally. We are innovating on cardiac pre-habilitation, work cross-disciplinarily on pedagogy, and regularly work with various branches of the Welsh Government on youth work, youth justice, homelessness amongst prison leavers, and national alcohol and drugs policy”
