Bu'r Athro Day yn astudio Ffiseg ym Mhrifysgol Queen Mary Llundain cyn derbyn MSc mewn Ffiseg Deunyddiau ym Mhrifysgol Bryste. Dychwelodd i Lundain i astudio ar gyfer gradd PhD mewn polymerau grisial sengl. Gweithiodd am 23 mlynedd ym Mhrifysgol Manceinion cyn symud i Brifysgol Wrecsam yn 2010 ac mae wedi byw yn Stockport am dros 25 mlynedd.

Mae wedi beicio llawer ond yn fwy diweddar yn mwynhau cerdded ci Goberaidd y teulu (ci esgimo wedi'i groesi âg adargi melyn).   Mae'n ymddiddori mewn electroneg a DIY, yr olaf yn deillio o'r angen i wneud hynny wrth fyw mewn tŷ hynafol! Caiff foddhad hefyd wrth bobi ac wedi dod i amlygrwydd wrth ddod â chacennau ar hap i'r gwaith, ac wrth rannu ei fideos yn pobi ar y fewnrwyd.

Mae ei ddiddordebau ymchwil yn cael eu hysgogi wrth geisio canfod ffyrdd o wneud cyfansoddion i leihau'r ôl troed amgylcheddol a chynyddu effeithlonrwydd ynni. Mae’n ymgymryd â'i waith ymchwil mewn labordy o’r radd flaenaf sydd yn y Ganolfan Hyfforddi a Datblygu Cyfansoddion Uwch, sy'n bartneriaeth rhwng Prifysgol Wrecsam ac Airbus, ac wedi’i leoli ar safle Airbus ym Mrychdyn.

Mae fy ngwaith ymchwil yn ymwneud â gweithgynhyrchu cyfansoddion ceramig a pholymer yn gyflym. Gwneir hyn trwy ddefnyddio gwres microdonnau i gyflymu’r amser prosesu. Yn aml, defnyddiwn gyfarpar pwrpasol a lunnir gennym ni i fynd i’r afael â’r gwaith prosesu a defnyddir thermometreg ffeibr optig ar ôl y cyweirio. O dro i dro, defnyddir modelu amledd uchel wrth lunio’r systemau hyn. Mae modd i’r cyweirio cyflym gael ôl-effeithiau ar strwythur a phriodweddau’r deunyddiau a gaiff eu ffurfio. Defnyddir amrywiaeth eang o dechnegau dadansoddi i archwilio’r newidiadau strwythurol a chemegol. Felly, defnyddir technegau fel cyseiniant magnetig niwclear cyflwr solet, sbectrosgopeg isgoch a dadansoddiad thermol fel calorimetreg sganio gwahaniaethol. Yn ein labordy ceir amrywiaeth eang o gyfleusterau dadansoddi thermol, yn ogystal â chyfleusterau profi mecanyddol a chyfleusterau profi gwrthdaro dros amrywiaeth eang o dymereddau. Mae hyn yn ein galluogi i gwmpasu tymereddau amrywiol y deuir ar eu traws fel arfer mewn deunyddiau awyrofod. Oherwydd y diddordeb mewn prosesu microdonnau, gallwn hefyd fesur priodweddau deuelectrig ar 2.45 a 5 GHz a gallwn fesur priodweddau deuelectrig gyda thymheredd.
